HARRISBURG - “Pennsylvania’s Energy Policy: Boom or Bust” will be the subject of a House Republican Policy Committee hearing to be held Friday, June 23, in Indiana County and hosted by state Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana).
“In many ways, Indiana County is ‘ground zero’ for the debate over how Pennsylvania should and shouldn’t move forward with regard to its energy policy,” Struzzi said. “We are home to Pennsylvania’s largest coal-fired power plant, a status that will soon change with the pending closure of the Homer City Generating Station and subsequent elimination of the approximately 129 jobs it creates.”
The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. at the Homer City Fire Hall, 25 W. Church St., Homer City. The purpose of the hearing is to discuss where our energy policy is heading and how to leverage our energy resources for an economic boom to avoid an economic bust.
“All that’s being asked for is a balanced energy portfolio that includes everything we have at our disposal, from natural resources to renewables,” added Struzzi. “Windmills and solar panels alone cannot serve as our sole sources of energy, nor can they help maintain Pennsylvania’s status as a major exporter of electricity. This hearing will examine the issue, including how the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is impacting our economy and the energy landscape in general.”
The hearing will be live streamed through Struzzi’s website,
