HARRISBURG – The House Majority Policy Committee recently announced that Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Hempfield) will serve a second term as a deputy chairman for the committee during the 2019-20 legislative session.

As a deputy chair, Nelson is looking forward to working on important statewide legislative issues. Last session, the committee conducted hearings, roundtable discussions and policy tours on topics such as the opioid epidemic, economic development, pipeline safety and strengthening the middle class.

“It is an honor to again be selected to serve my caucus in this role,” Nelson said. “Through my participation in the committee last session, I gained valuable information on a variety of topics, which enabled me to draft legislation to tackle issues important to all Pennsylvanians. I look forward to working with my colleagues again to help move Pennsylvania forward.”

The House Majority Policy Committee conducts hearings and roundtable discussions about important statewide and regional issues that matter most to Pennsylvania citizens; gathers testimony and information from key stakeholders; and works within the House Republican Caucus to develop policies to address those issues. The Policy Committee also works in tandem with the speaker and majority leader to examine and refine critical pieces of legislation in advance of floor consideration.

“When Rep. Nelson came to the House a few years ago, we knew that his military, business and educational background would serve both his district and Pennsylvania well,” said Donna Oberlander, chair of the Majority Policy Committee. “We are excited that Eric will continue to serve as a deputy chairman for the Policy Committee this session.”
