Reversing the damage left in the wake of the past recession is not an easy task. Everyone is worried about finding a job, keeping a job and, more importantly, about the future for their children. With a government so comfortable with the status quo, something has to give to produce a clear response to the challenges facing all of us. We need to break down the barriers to economic growth and reform our tax structure to create jobs now and in the future.

(HARRISBURG) –State Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana) today joined with Rep. Eugene DePasquale (D-York) to unveil a plan to close the “Delaware Loophole” and implement necessary business tax reforms in Pennsylvania. HARRISBURG – A state House Majority Policy Committee hearing centered on welfare reform and cost-control efforts revealed that more than 100,000 ineligible welfare recipients have been removed from the state’s Medical Assistance program since July. Majority Policy Committee Chairman Dave Reed (R-Indiana), who along with members of the Policy Committee was briefed on the news today by top welfare department officials, applauded the reform steps.

WHAT: A House Majority Policy Committee hearing to examine the progress being made to improve the integrity of Pennsylvania’s welfare system and implement cost controls following the enactment of Act 22 of 2011. Several of the reforms included in Act 22 were developed through the Majority Policy Committee and passed in the House in the spring.

With the second highest business tax rate in the nation, Pennsylvania’s current economic climate is driving employers from the state, preventing new companies from locating and growing in the Commonwealth, and has cost the state tens of thousands of jobs. That was the message that Chairman Dave Reed (R-Indiana) and other members of the House Majority Policy Committee heard today from testifiers at a public hearing held in Harrisburg.

As part of the overall state budget agreement, the House on Thursday approved, and Gov. Tom Corbett is expected to sign into law, several welfare reform provisions introduced earlier this year by House Republicans and championed by Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) and House Majority Policy Committee Chairman Dave Reed (R-Indiana).
